In January, we had the great pleasure of reviewing “Make Acid Great Again”, a magnificent album from Japanese-Polish outfit AcidSitter. We are closing 2024 with another review for the quartet, this time they have offered us but a single, but do not despair! “Doomscroller’s Blues” is heralding the arrival of a new LP in 2025 and we are absolutely ecstatic. If the album is anywhere as good as the track, then ladies and gents, we will have the first contender for the album of the year! Now, sit back, relax and let the band take you on an unforgettable space rock ride.

Official bio: AcidSitter – a musical association of experienced Polish/Japanese psychonauts based in Krakow, exploring a wide range of psychedelia with rock’n’roll passion and punk energy: Tetsuya Nara (Tumbling Walls), Rafał Klimczak (Neal Cassady, NEAL), Tomek Głuc (Neal Cassady, Nucleon) and Filip Franczak (Fraktale, Tumbling Walls, Kaseciarz). If Roky Erickson were alive, he would have liked it. So, that’s it. Tune in. Set in. Drop dead.
PS. Make Acid Great Again!
AcidSitter call themselves psychonauts, a portmanteau of “astronauts” and “psychedelia”, an exceptionally brilliant description. The band flies high, orbiting planets of punk, alternative rock, ambient, space rock, garage, shoegaze, psychedelic rock and indie. Drawing from many sounds, subcultures and influences resulted in creation of a musical microcosm endemic to the Polish city of Krakow, where the band resides. This tiny, portable sonic galaxy is filled with airy guitars, rhythmic drumming and funky bass.
Do you remember the famous poem by Charles Bukowski titled – “Confessions of a Misanthrope”? Well, this is exactly what “Doomscroller’s Blues” is about. The song’s narrator is completely and utterly frustrated with humanity. All those pointless manoeuvres, stupid discussions, idiotic things humans do, somehow, and God only knows why, end up on the news. Reading, listening or scrolling through them leads the narrator to the conclusion that, we as a species, deserve to simply die out. Humans are assholes, with a lot to lose yet we are still hell bent on making the same mistakes. Our actions have a negative effect on us all – we wake up scared, are afraid to turn on the radio or the TV, we feel trapped in the sticky web of lies, deceit and negativity of our own creation. Will we ever change? Hopefully yes, but at this moment, it’s really hard not to think bad about the human race.

“Doomscroller’s Blues” stands at 4 minutes and 38 seconds. It has a somewhat swinging beat, howling guitars and surprisingly pop-soaked hooky choruses. I love the surf rock inspired bassline and repeated disco infused percussion that invites you to hit the dance-floor. There is a tempo change at the 2 minutes 32 seconds mark that sounds almost Beatlesque – very nice touch, a bit of a cool Britannia wave to tone down the reverb heavy beginning. My only, tiny complaint would be that I wished this song was performed in Polish instead of English. I realize AcidSitter are committed to exclusively perform in the language of Shakespeare and Bukowski, but I truly think the track would benefit more from the Polish version.
“Doomscroller’s Blues” was produced by Maciek Cieślak of Ścianka and released on the 6th of December through Interstellar Smoke Records. The live video was filmed earlier this year at Alchemia Klub in Krakow.
2024 was a very good year for AcidSitter. The album received enthusiastic reviews, the band toured a lot playing shows and festivals in Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Slovenia, Croatia, Holland and Germany! I truly, truly hope 2025 will be even better, allowing them to come to France and the UK – so far, we sadly were not able to see them play live! Polish bands are on the roll, with Izzy and The Black Trees and Trupa Trupa leading the way. AcidSitter is another band that is export ready. Watch this space people, AcidSitter is coming!
