PAVÉ – The End of Us single review

I’m probably stating the obvious but social media can be a great tool when you are writing reviews, and you need to remind yourself where you have been and what you have done. According to the-ever-useful-search-your-profile option on Facebook, 5 years ago, on May 19th, I had the pleasure to see Manchester based outfit Pavé at Aatma. Back then, they were a 5 piece, the festival they played was poorly organized (never went back again), but they made a big impression on those who managed to catch them perform. Somehow, we never reviewed them on Indieterria, for which I truly owe the band huge apologies. We are going to fix that mistake right here and right now. Pavé have a new single out called “The End of Us” and it’s absolutely fantastic.

Official bio:  Led by the powerful vocals of Alanya-Jade, with Kevin on guitar, Meg on Bass and Ben on drums, Pavé has carved a distinctive niche in the music scene. Drawing inspiration from a diverse spectrum of musical influences, the band’s energy resonates with the likes of Alternative trailblazers such as Yonaka, Bring Me The Horizon, and Royal Blood. Despite their initial debut taking place just days before the world went into lockdown, PAVÉ’s unwavering determination to make their mark has paid off. From selling out multiple hometown shows, to being handpicked by THE HARA as support for their 2022 UK tour, PAVÉ has garnered acclaim from reputable sources including The MANC, THE BBC, CLASH MAGAZINE, and PLANET ROCK and have most recently been selected as one of THIS FEELING’s ‘Big in 2024’ artists featuring on their charity vinyl and showcase in Manchester. The demand for their music continues to surge, evident from their impressive statistics of 60k Spotify streams and 22k YouTube views last year alone.

A lot has changed in the band since 2019. They are now a quartet, they evolved from indie/shoegaze towards a more rockier, edgier sound a la My Chemical Romance or Royal Blood, but one thing remains constant – they are still amazingly good at what they do. And I’m very glad to see that they are being noticed by the biggest forces in the music industry: they are on the national radio, play sold-out gigs and appear at summer festivals. In the last few months, several industry plants claimed that they are either based or started their careers in Manchester despite no local promoter booking them and nobody from the local circuit hearing about them. PAVÉ are as real as it gets, they have played every single stage in Mancunia, they worked incredibly hard to be in this exact spot and (fingers crossed) with a tiny bit of luck, they should be going places.

Every praise levelled at the band is fully justified. Flux Magazine called the group “cheeky rowdy blast”. The Clash were impressed by their “vigorous electric riffs, big drums and a roaring hook”, while BBC Radio 1’s Nels Hylton named them one of the best new acts in the North. “The End of US” is big in sound, there is a lot going on. Riffs are strong, bhttps://www.instagram.com/ccsnaps_ass is pulsing and the drumming is hard as nails. There is a bit of electronica thrown in, not much but it adds a bit of Hailstorm flavour to the track. Alanya-Jade vocals are absolute perfection, they are sharp and focused, shill and piercing like a knife. The track standing at 3 minutes and 43 seconds is a superb mixture of hard rock and alternative rock with a kick of a stubborn mule.

The band’s name is inspired by the French Revolution and it symbolizes rebellion, freedom and fighting for one’s beliefs. With a powerful sound, socially conscious ethos and great stage presence, the group’s future seems truly bright.

I’m very proud of them.
