Delilah Bon – “Princeless Princess” single review

Are you sick and tired of being constantly referred to as “flower”, “love”, “petal” or “princess” as a woman? Do some strange blokes ostentatiously block your way only to offer opening the doors or make room for you to pass? Do people ask you all the time when you will marry or have children? Are your male work colleagues falsely assuming you don’t know anything about your job and they mansplain the world to you? If yes, then you are not alone. Many women are raised to be silent, obedient, not confrontational, putting others’ needs above their own health and safety. But times, they are a-changing, and here’s Delilah Bon to the rescue, stating obvious truths for those who don’t seem to notice the changes. Women are not some helpless creatures that are waiting for the prince charming to come and save them. They don’t need male’s assistance to exist or thrive. We are queens in charge of our own destinies.

Official bio: Brat Punk. Riot Grrrl Rap. Feminist Rage. Delilah Bon is here to disrupt, to provoke, and to create space for the voices that need it most. One of the most essential and unfiltered voices in alternative music today. Fusing nu-metal, the fearless spirit of riot grrrl, and the lyrical fire of hip-hop, Delilah Bon is the genre-defying voice of a new generation. With her self-coined “Brat Punk” sound, she delivers unapologetic anthems that smash patriarchy, challenge toxic masculinity, and celebrate the power of female rage. Delilah is more than just a musician, she’s leading a movement that’s louder, bolder, and braver than ever. Her upcoming EP, “Princeless Princess” (out September 2025) tears up the fairy-tale rulebook and replaces it with something real: self-worth, rage, and rebellion.

I have said this many, many times, but Lauren Tate is one of the most important British musicians of the last decade. She doesn’t have a massive industry backing, money, manager, contract with a major or rich parents. What she has is a vision, creativity and determination to keep on going despite everything. And she is leading a real revolution among a young, progressive audience that is tired of nepotism, toxic masculinity or lack of inclusivity. Majority of her followers are female, but if you go to her gigs, you will see a lot of cis men too, alongside non-binary, trans or gender fluid, LGBTQIA+ folks. This is because Delilah Bon’s shows are open to everyone, they are safe spaces to have fun, shout about what ills you, or speak up against injustice. There are many bands that will tell you they are inclusive and progressive yet their gigs are marred by sexual assaults. The bands may fancy themselves progressive, but their audience is not, and without speaking up, not much will change for female concert attendees. Delilah from the start established clear boundaries: no disrespect, no bullying, no violence, or you will be publicly called out. And this has worked like a charm, drawing in crowds that actually respect what she says. On top of that – she is a master at creating provocative, melodic and radio friendly songs that just won’t leave you alone. Add it all together and you get a brave, outspoken and gifted creator that does not need to play covers on TikTok to get places.

Delilah’s newest single “Princeless Princess” brilliantly showcases Tate’s unique composing talents. The track mixes several genres (rap, rap core, metal, nu metal and alternative rock) with political and feminist lyrics and a huge dose of humour. The beginning of the song features a hilariously short exchange between somewhat chavy Prince Charming and the titular Princeless Princess, both played by Delilah and it really puts a big grin on your face. Rapping is fast and furious, refrains are melodic, vocals are crystal clear and words rhyme. It might need a clean version for the Aunty Beeb, but everyone else will be delighted. The chorus “Locked up in my princeless castle, no hassle, no assholes” will be a battle cry for all the teenagers in the front rows, mark my words.

“Princeless Princess”, a bit of a mouthful for the non native speakers, stands at 3 minutes and 43 seconds. I have praised Delilah’s rapping skills previously but she is now even better, more confident and bad ass (Cobra Kai style). I always thought Tairrie B to be the best female rapper in the rap-core genre but I think it’s time to pass the crown and victory sash to Miss Bon. It’s a big compliment, taking into consideration that Tairrie trained under the tutelage of Easy-E of the legendary NWA, and as far as I know, Delilah taught herself at home. Everything about “Princeless Princess” is truly great: beats, hooks, loops, lyrics, heavy guitars and contagious melodies. This is the first release from Delilah’s new upcoming EP that will deal with many fantasies that patriarchal society pushes women into. And I don’t mean the fantasies that women have about free healthcare, equal pay or not having to carry a bulky set of keys when we go out to jog at night.

Delilah Bon is going to be a very busy evil, hate-filled princeless princess this summer and autumn, playing festivals and shows across US, mainland Europe and the UK. She has a fantastic new team that will join her on tour with the absolutely incredible Suki Wong (we are big fans!!) on bass, Sam Williams on drums and Anya Jasmine, 22 year old guitar prodigy.
