We spoke to BEX for the first time at the end of 2022, when her self made videos went viral. Two years later, BEX is now a formidable force on the independent circuit, creating music that is fun, energetic, unrepentant and socially engaged. She is followed by 40.000 people on Instagram, 30.000 on TikTok (with 568k likes). Other statistics are also impressive: half a million streams and 8k monthly listeners on Spotify, 4.k subscribers and 440k views on YouTube, sold out shows, festival appearances, multiple plays on BBC Radio 1. Yet, despite her continuous success, she is yet to be noticed by the British music magazines.
Today we celebrate the International Woman Day and we chose BEX to be our woman of the day. It is imperative that a light is shone at women that are often overlooked and marginalized: independent, from working class, minority background. Despite everything, they are managing to achieve truly impressive things.
We sat down with BEX to speak about her current tour, new singles and woman that support her in her work.

BEX by Nick Davarias
You recently left your label and you are now a fully independent artist. How are you feeling? It must be terrifying to set out into this business without any safety nets!
BEX: It’s been a couple weeks now so it’s no longer daunting! I know I have fans to support me in my music, I have been pushing my Patreon a lot more and it’s so warming to see the amount of support on there. It fills me with a lot of confidence that my fans want more BEX!
March is the women’s history month and 8th of March (today) is the International Women’s Day. As a woman in the music industry, what changes would you like to see happen? More gigs for women, more festival bookings or maybe something else?
BEX: Happy International Women’s Day!! The music industry has a long way to go before it’s equal, festival line ups are still predominantly male, I still see so many only male tour line ups! We are currently on tour and so far out of the 6 shows we have played there has been one female sound engineer and no female show reps! There’s still a lot of sexualising happening around female performers, big and small! There is also a lack of women in the crowd and I’m not sure if this is down to women feeling unsafe at shows or the music not reaching them!
Music is hard biz for the women to thrive in, but despite difficulties, women are rocking! Tell us about your favourite solo female artists and bands. Who do we need to listen to?
BEX: I have a massive list but right now you need to check out ALT BLK ERA, BXRREL, HAWXX and Cassyette.
Behind every hard-working woman, is another woman working in the background. Let’s shout about the incredible women that help in your career. Managers, bookers and moms!
BEX: 100% I am so happy that my team is mainly female! My incredible manager Grace is the best!! We also have the amazing Sarah working on my press and radio and alongside my great live agent Steve is Danielle who is so hardworking!! And of course, my mum who is a massive help to the entire BEX project!
You are currently on tour with HAWXX. Tell us how it is going. Are you having fun?
BEX: Tour is so much fun!! We are having a great time!! It’s so refreshing to be on tour with HAWXX as they are all great company, great musicians and so relaxed and funny! We’ve got two more shows left but I’m definitely going to be sad when it’s over.
Part of your portfolio is clothes design and upcycling. What inspires you? Do you think we can see your designs on a catwalk?
BEX: I’d love to do a catwalk show one day! I’m currently rebranding my fashion business; I want to move my skills into making more comfortable stage wear that doesn’t lack coolness! I get extreme sensory overload when clothes are touching me but I love the way they look, so I’m trying to make clothes that look just as cool but are soft and stretchy, there’s a lot in the works.
You are the only artist we know that uses two bass guitars in their live set up, no guitars and occasional live drums. How did you come up with this rather radical concept and how do you keep it working?
BEX: So, our live set up is two basses, one vocal and a drummer. It creates a very big punky sound! We started using two basses purely because both Josh and I wanted to play bass, Josh builds pedals and creates the sounds that we use live, we run one bass through a guitar amp to give the set some high end and then the other bass runs through a pre amp! It took a lot of work to get the sound we have today but it’s definitely a keeper now!
What are your plans for the next few months? Are you going to release a new single soon? We can’t wait!
BEX: On April the 3rd I will be releasing my first single of the year!! I’m super excited because it’s my fav track that we have made so far!
