Mango in Euphoria – Can’t Be Cured video review

A lot has changed since we last wrote about Manon aka Mango In Euphoria. She has released a new single, appeared on the cover of “Pretty Vicious”, newest album by The Struts, ended up on a huge billboard in Time Square and now hosts her own show on Islington Radio. Yesterday, a video to “Can’t Be Cured” premiered at midnight and, hand on heart, it’s probably the best track she has written so far.  Sky’s the limit as they say but Mango is setting up her sights on conquering space.

Bio: Surfing on storms, swimming with comets, Mango In Euphoria is the new French flamboyant dark disco freak born on the punk London scene. Her electrifying live shows feel like a therapy session in a nightclub, while her music tells the story of a torn individual finding happiness in dystopian times. Compared to Bowie and Grimes and pushed to rock on stage by The Struts frontman Luke Spiller, Mango’s got a nice future ahead after long years of rough hospitality jobs across the globe.

“Can’t Be Cured” was originally released in September 2023 as a digital single, but we had to wait until now to see the video. It takes time for DIY and unsigned artists to gather necessary funding to film video clips to their songs, but good things come to those who wait. The video to the song was directed by Camille Alexander, a fellow French artist and leader of the veterans on the alternative London scene – A VOID. Outside of being a front woman of a grunge trio, and popular content creator, Camille is also a respected videographer that directed almost all A VOID videos to high acclaim (they organically score over 10k views on average on YouTube). Working together must have been a great experience for both ladies.

Being able to discuss things in their native language is a great plus, I can vouch for that. Maybe that’s why the video works so well – the pacing is fluid, the camera spins around like crazy, fades in and out, gets up close and personal, and the lights are red and burning brightly. It’s almost like we are watching a home-made VHS tape created by the singer for an exclusive use of somebody special, that we shouldn’t be seeing. I’m not sure if that was Camille’s artistic vision for this song, but if it was, then she is really succeeding in creating intimate-like visuals where the audience almost feels like strangers peeping through the hole in a wall. Paying homage to the classic scene from “Flashdance” movie and wearing a similar costume (in a slightly more revealing version), Manon dances like her life depends on it. She is jumping, spinning, rolling on the floor illuminated by pulsing lights that could really cause an epilepsy attack. There is a warning at the beginning of the video that really should be taken seriously.

“Can’t Be Cured” again mixes several different genres into an alternative dance music with a fast beat, rock and roll edge and crazy industrial like hammering. The chorus is fast, you will find slower passages between refrains and Manon voice cements it all together with a brilliant 80’s pop vibe. The song is freakingly radio friendly too, it honestly can be played everywhere from BBC Radio 1 to your local indie anthem hour. I absolutely love it and I bet a tenner, you will hear it and you will be singing along.

The song is less than 3 minute long, written by Manon with Matyas Csonka and produced by Kostas Georgiadis. The video was filmed at the Vatican Dance Studios in London with the splendid lighting done by Letti Kormos.

I have said it before but Mango In Euphoria is probably the craziest, most unconventional and imaginative singer in London right now. Alongside A Void, and GLYTSH (French-Swiss duo), the French ladies are ruling the capital. If you haven’t seen Mango live yet, go and see her perform. I truly hope she will soon be signed; she deserves a big stage instead of a small grass root venue. Nothing against my beloved small clubs, but some artists are better on big scenes, and Mango is simply one of those people.
