One thing you need to know about me is I’m a massive sucker for all things crazy. The weirder and funnier and unconventional, the better. Everything sensible, predictable or stereotypical bores me to death and I avoid them like a plaque. Maybe that’s why I fell hopelessly in love with Dois Padres, a duo playing an amazing mixture of blues, country, experimental and art rock. Think the new Southern Culture of These Skids or the blue-grass infused Butthole Surfers. Seriously, believe me when I say they are like Pringles – once you hear their music, you will not be able to stop listening.

“Sasquatch Boogie” cover by Kid Studio
Official bio: Formed in 2017, Dois Padres are a two-piece, blues-tinged rock outfit shot straight from the minds of Danny Young (guitar & vocals) and George Cowan (drums). With 4 albums under their belt, and after performing with celebrated acts such as Daddy Long Legs, Dr Feelgood, The Hooten Hallers, Spear of Destiny and The Velveteers, they have built a reputation as one of the most exciting and consistent acts on the scene.
“Sasquatch Boogie” was released on the 11th of August and it’s heralding the arrival of a brand-new album that will be released at the end of September. The track stands at 2 minutes and 23 seconds, great news for all the DJ’s that recently seem hell bent on receiving material that is shorter than 3 minutes. Maybe we can hear the track being played on BBC Radio 1 now? Fingers crossed. The song was recorded at the Sound Arc Studios by the band, mixed by Danny Young (Dois Padres’ guitarist and vocalist) and mastered by Greg Moss-Coomes (Grace Tayler, Libby Whitehouse) who worked on previous releases by the band.

The famous Dois Padres by Daniel Slapp
I love when artists and their producers understand each other perfectly – you can hear the great chemistry they have in every tone. Otherwise, it can be a sonic disaster. We recently received several tracks for reviews where the artist wanted to sound in a particular way and the producer (and probably mastering too) had different ideas. The tracks sounded as pleasantly as a divorcing couple and it was a torture to having to listen to the end of them. No, you will not find the reviews here, we would have to give them a very unflattering analysis. So, bands, if you find a team that is willing to listen to you and get you the final sound you are after, stick with them. Some free piece of advice!
“Sasquatch Boogie” is a typical Dois Padres song, yet you will hear no complaints from us. It may not revolutionize modern experimental rock music, but it will really put a big smile on your face. Dois Padres create music that honestly, is capable of chasing all doom and gloom away and make the world a bit of a happier place. Who doesn’t like cheesy, boogie-woogie cross with Hawaiian surf rock and Creolean rhythm and blues that forces your body to twist and turn and shake your elbows, knees and behinds? The track comes with a brilliant Halloween inspired video where an Alien from Area 51 and King King are encouraging you to try the elaborate dance moves such as swamp stomp, frog hop and fly swat. And when you master all the basics, there is an Invisible Man, Bonnie and Clyde and Loch Ness Monster combos to try out too. A bit of practice and you will be doing the neck-breaking Marty McFly, Roswell Romp and Spring Heeled Jack in no time.

It’s fun, crazy, a bit cringe (in a positive way) like the 80’s horror movies (“The Swamp Thing”, “Vamp” or “The Fight Night”) and utterly charming. We need more bands like Dois Padres that are original, absolutely addictive and fascinating. They don’t need to copy anybody else; they don’t need to nick ideas or borrow other people’s styles – they have their own world that’s vibrant, colourful and ingenious. Dois Padres are one of a kind.
I truly wish that the song came out at the beginning of October, when the leaves are turning red, it’s getting dark early and there is a cold mist in the air. Well, in any case, the season for a spice pumpkin latte is now officially opened.

PS. I can bet my collection of Ahsoka Tano’s figurines that “Sasquatch Boogie” would make a fantastic soundtrack to “The X-Files” or to the second season of “Wednesday”. If You know the person responsible for music selection at those productions, please drop me a line. Ta.
