JaDe The Nightmare – Crawl Inside video review

Released in February this year, “Crawl Inside” is hauntingly standing out among Jade The Nightmare`s repertoire of songs of horror.  It starts like a lullaby, sung with a clear, soothing tone before guttural screams and madness takes over.  We always thought there was a story behind it that was worth exploring. Thankfully Jade was of the same opinion and she decided to release a video to “Crawl Inside” right on her birthday (16/06).

The video was firstly exclusive as a present to followers and members of Jade The Nightmare`s fanclub, but is currently available to everyone. If you are – like us – a fan of Jade`s music and want to keep yourself up to date with her music, you can join Nightmare Nation or Jade`s Patreon for exclusive content.

A word of warning, the video may be triggering and may affect viewers with epilepsy. Other than that, it has everything that a fan of extreme metal may like:  gore-a-plenty, horror, supernatural and sense of humour. The story line could as well be an episode of The X Files, squeezed into three minutes (proven that Mulder and Scully are teamed with Frank Black of Millennium, otherwise they may be in trouble).

“In “Crawl Inside,” we delve into the twisted desires and forbidden realms of the occult” – explains Jade about her work – “Our protagonist, driven by curiosity and an insatiable longing, embarks on a perilous act to invoke the powers of a succubus. However, as the haunting melodies unfold, the narrative takes a dark turn, revealing the horrifying consequences of meddling with the unknown from the perspective of a friend that came to search the home”.

And indeed, a rushed camera brings us to an empty house. Curtains are down. In the dimly lit lounge TV is on and evening news is being broadcast. But one look at the screen and you realize that something is not right. Firstly, the news is about a body found in the house in a Denver International Airport area but there is no coroner present and no sign that a police force was even here. The newscaster clearly says that the murdered person messed around with the occult while smiling. “Man attempts to summon succubus” shouts the breaking news headline while the broadcast gets repeated again and again. Whoever entered the house swears and in panic runs blindly into the nearby rooms only to discover more horror.

Hands reaching down from the ceiling, bloody pentagrams and burning candles, a horned succubus feeding on intestines and severed legs, corridors filled from top to bottom with mirrors – this is a trip into The Twilight Zone that you won’t forget. If you live to tell the tale. The scariest thing for me personally is seeing the image of the succubus in her “normal”, human form – as a young girl with a fashionable bob hair style looking innocently into the mirror. You know she is out to get another victim but all you can see is this sweet reflection staring back at you. The succubus can be anyone and everywhere. Yikes!

Fans of Jade The Nightmare will surely appreciate the little details that make the video to “Crawl Inside” even spookier. The shaky camera recording in the video is dated 1st of March which correlates with the release of “Crawl Inside” as a single. As an artist based in Denver, it is a brilliant idea for Jade to include references to her hometown. The mentioned airport is Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, while the TV channel you are seeing is FOX 31 AKA local TV station KDVR. Could a succubus be a late news presenter on Fox? Who knows, after all hosted Tucker Carlson for years. I told you I just love Jade`s sense of humour.

Did I mention that all shooting, props, directing and editing of the video was done by Jade herself? You don’t need big budgets or big labels to create interesting, ambitious and engaging art. Jade The Nightmare is not just a metal/grime/horror-core act with artistic vision. It is a whole creative outlet for a young female artist in a male dominated field who carved a niche for herself.

And this is why I will always champion artists in the underground.
