Glytsh – SAV@GE single review

Glytsh arrived early this year with the force of Bruce Lee in “Enter The Dragon” by releasing their own version of Nine Inch Nails’s “Closer”. Taking on a cult song, and one of the most scandalous tunes of the last 30 years on, is never a simple task, but the ladies did a stellar job. Their next single “(Hard)core Memory” gathered nearly 10k views on YouTube on the strenght of word of mouth alone. National radio plays followed, indie blogs gave the band the best reviews and industry experst praised them to high heavens. Today, the duo is back with a fierce, wild and explosive new song entitled “SAV@GE”. Hell is empty and the demons are playing electric guitars. That’s how good the girls truly are.

“SAV@GE” is a song about not fitting in with the society that tries to push women into substandard roles. Every woman knows the drill – cooking, cleaning, caring for family members, being polite, not demanding or loud. When women expects respect, basic human rights or equality – they are deemed to be aggressive, disruptive, diffucult. It doesnt matter if we are 5 years old or 105, the expectations are pretty much the same. Know your place behind the bold boys who will be rulling the world, going on exciting adventures and having a career. A female’s role is usually to be the home maker, the emotional supporter, the chearleader. When we try to break the established status quo, name calling starts: a bitch, a witch, a princess, high maintainance Karen. But then comes the time when a woman stops caring and no longer gives a hoot what is being said about her.

I regard “SAV@GE” as a middle finger to all people (equally men and females) who belittle and criticize those looking to change things. It’s a kick to the backside for the abusers spitting out bile and obscenities. A proper punch to the solar plexus for haters using our hormones and womanhood to control or shame us. Women are not evil or crazy. Women are wonderful, resourceful and talented. And we are looking to make the world a better place for the underdogs – LGBTQ+ folks, minorities, disabled, ill or those excluded from the mainstreams of society.

“SAV@GE” is an anthem for rebels. Standing at 2 minutes and 47 seconds, it is short, sweet, loud and proud. It will be stuck in your head for a month, if not longer. The chorus with its infectious “na na na na’s” is a thing of absolute beauty – you really need to hear the song only once and you will be singing your heart out, even in the middle of the High Street on a Saturday shopping spree. What I truly like about it, is that the girls are skillfully mixing industrial, metal, alternative rock and pop. Yep, this song is so radio friendly that you will be hearing it on Radio 1 any day. Mark my words.

Glytsh by Tina K

Jennifer Diehl and Claire Genoud know exactly what they want to achieve in the music business. They come super prepared: they write their own lyrics and music, play their own instruments, they have a precise vision for promotional pictures and videos. What’s the most important – they have their own, easily recognizable sound. This is rare for new bands but the pair are not newcomers – they have played with other acts around the world, on the biggest stages. They are not only highly professional but also confident. It shows in the way they move in their videos, with whom they work (their SAV@GE promotional pictures were taken by the famous Tina K who photographed everyone from Ville Valo to KISS), how they approach social media. This coherent, clear arrangement that binds their music with media, helps them beat their competitors by a mile.

This is one of the rare examples when a band appears on the indie scene and is just ready for a label grab. This is a perfectly composed, brilliantly sounding act that could go on the road with the biggest stars even tomorrow and would not disappoint.

Be prepared – the ladies from Glytsh are like Violet Beauregarde from “Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory” – eyes on the prize and not even blinking. And if they set their minds to something, there is nothing stopping them.

Keeping my fingers crossed for their dreams to all come true. They truly deserve it.

10 out of 10, 5 stars and a very loud cheer.
