Brain Ape – MCMI. FENCHURCH KING Video Premiere

sl4cJjKUBrain Ape is a rare beast. It is made of broken riffs, distorted guitars, dance rhythm and ethereal vocals. It is part avantgarde rock, part industrial and part indie creature that instantly gets our attention. There is nobody else like them on the market – they might not be BBC Radio 1 material, but John Peel would be delighted offering them a session on his show. If you are tired of the same old tunes, nostalgia acts or lads bands and you are looking for something truly unique – this is your lucky day. It’s Tuesday, 16th of August A.D. 2022 and we are premiering the video to Brain Ape’s newest single – MCMI. Fenchurch King.

We have written about this song before – we reviewed it in June and to our surprise, it proved to be a very popular post despite the band’s very eclectic sound and song’s mysterious title. We are very pleased that people took the time to read it – it means ambitious music is still in demand and listeners are looking for new original bands.

The video to “MCMI. Fenchurch King” is a collaboration between Brain Ape (Minky Très-vain and Sol Alex Albert) and Firework Production. It was directed written, shot, edited, designed, mixed and colourised by the band and they are playing lead roles in it as well. Minky stars as a character knows as Eric Tunglsson, and Sol Alex is playing Wyn Pfaird. This absolutely psychedelic short movie also features Jacob Powell (as Trin O’ Gealach), Siubhan McGealach and The Shrewd. The video opens a new chapter in band’s development and they want to be perceived differently than they were in the past.

“Sound… sound and concept. Completely different from anything else we’ve ever done” – they say in an official interview that accompanies the video. “There’s a concept behind it. It’s not just pretty songs anymore. The first ten years of the band, we were trying to discover who the band was. We’ve got a much better idea, now. We’re more assured of who we are as people as well, actually and as a band. That’s reflected in the tune. It’s the first time we’ve ever performed not as ourselves. Normally, the lens is on us. For the first time ever, the lens is on the music instead. There’s a concept behind a lot of this, and the characters that we are playing are reflective of characters in the track. So there is a story and a through-line”.

MCMI. Fenchurch King. is hazy, dreamy, almost otherworldly. Characters appear and disappear in a flash of red light and cigarette smoke – you have to see it yourselves, we shan’t spoil it for anybody. One thing is certain – there is no limit to Brain Ape’s imagination and their next single will probably be even weirder, even bigger and bolder.

Watch this space, Brain Ape are on a roll and it’s gonna be a hell of a ride.
